Velveteen slipper

 

“The owner of the shoe store, Yehudi O’Dell, didn’t bat an eyelash when he forced the velveteen slipper over the fat lady’s foot. He’d performed the same service almost a thousand times every month. However, this was the first time that a customer died, with him squatting on a stubby stool and holding a pudgy foot in his hand. And hell if he hadn’t asked “Is that too tight madam?”

The above is a paragraph in one of my works in progress. Where do you think the story is headed, or better yet, where would you like the story line to take you?
